2009 - The Year of the Cougar

It’s official! Newsweek has named 2009 the year of the Cougar. With some many TV shows and movies coming out this year it’s easy to see why. Sandra Bullock’s latest movie “The Proposal” has Sandra Bullock Ryan Reynolds who is 12 years younger than her. Michelle Pfeiffer, who is 51, bags herself Rupert Friend who is only 27 years old. Catherine Zeta-Jones plays a 39 year old woman who is on the hunt for some fresh meat when she finds herself a 25 year old man in her latest “The Rebound”. How Can we forget Courtney Cox’s TV show "Cougartown" where she plays a recently divorced mother who is looking for some action. I can’t wait to see what 2010 holds for the Cougars and the men they hunt. 

Your Favorite Cougar

Cameron Diaz Voted Favorite Cougar. 

Cameron Diaz was voted favorite Cougar in the latest poll focused on the first blog post. She won 30% of the votes with Demi Moore in a close second.

Spot a Cougar

In most cases noticing a Cougar in the bar or club is quite easy. Look for the older woman hitting on all the young guys. Cougars usually hunt in packs of two to four and can often be found on the dance floor or posted up at the bar.  The legendary attire for a Cougar is animal print. Shown below is a prime example of a Cougar, drink in one hand and animal print to show off in.

Look for these tell tale signs this Friday night, you never know, you might just find yourself under attack from a Cougar on the hunt.

Paula Abdul

Paula Abdul is one of the judges to the every popular TV hit 'American Idol' and Corey Clark a contestant. In 2005 Abdul ABC released a special where Mr. Clark told all about a scandal involving the two. Clark states Paula helped him pick songs to sing during the show, which lead to a sexual relationship between the two. Clark, 22 at the time, had landed your typical Cougar. Abdul, who was 40 at the time, is a prime example of a Cougar on the hunt. Makes you wonder, who could be next on this womans list?

Cougars in the Media

There’s a crazy buzz surrounding the latest craze, Cougars. Many TV stations have developed shows focusing on celebrities dating younger men, such as E! and VH1. Most recently TV Land hosted the show “The Cougar” which brought one lucky mom the chance at young love. The show was a great success and I would expect another season in the near future. 

Along with The Cougar dating show women have begun writing books on tips to landing younger men. The book Cougar: A Guide to Older Women Dating Younger Men written by Valerie Gibson has seen large sales and mass popularity. This informative book not only gives tips to older women, but encourages them(Thanks Ms. Gibson).

Books, TV shows and movies have Cougars being glamorized and creating more of a buzz for this fantastic phenomenon.. We can only hope more media sources jump on this band wagon and share these women with the world. How about a talk show hosted by Cougars, think about it. 

Cougar Hot Spots

This weeks cougar hang out is Drift Lounge located in Old Town Scottsdale. Looking for cougars on the hunt? Head to Drift on a Friday night right around Happy Hour and you’ll be sure to find a few. They only get more hungry once the sun goes down. If it’s not the school teacher group celebrating a birthday, it’s a group of friends looking for a few strong drinks. 

So take the time to swing by Drift some Friday evening, you might be surprised who you run into and that doesn’t just go for the young men, Ms. Cougar, you’ll have plenty to choose from. Don’t like the options Drift has to offer? You’re in Old Town, the alternatives are endless.
